Wilderness, Woven by Hand

Learn More About the Project
Project Description
This Wyckoff sanctuary began as a thoughtful collaboration between Magic Landscaping and landscape architect Mike Knapp, united by a shared vision: to let the land speak in its own voice. What emerged is a country garden alive with movement and stillness—layered, untamed, and deeply serene. A raised flagstone terrace gives way to rustic stone steps, meandering through wildflowers toward a stream-fed koi pond and waterfall. Every element, from plant palette to stonework, is composed with painterly restraint.
This is a space that breathes, bends, and blooms—responding to wind, water, and the quiet joy of simply being.
Project Challenges
The challenge was to create a wild and peaceful garden that felt both immersive and low-maintenance—a space that honored the homeowners’ love of gardening without demanding perfection. Plantings needed to be lush but not overdesigned, structured but free. With Drew’s artistic guidance and the client’s daily care, the balance was struck—and now thrives.

-
Natural Stone Transitions: Rustic stone steps and a raised flagstone terrace guide the flow of movement between zones, inviting exploration without disrupting the rhythm of the land.
Living Water Feature: A boulder-lined waterfall, stream, and koi pond introduce sound, texture, and soul, turning the garden into a musical, living experience.
Wild yet Intentional Plant Palette: With layers of native and pollinator-friendly species, the diverse planting design balances color and calm in an ever-changing composition.
Certified Wildlife Sanctuary: This landscape isn’t just beautiful—it supports life. Thoughtful design and passionate stewardship have earned it national sanctuary status.
Homeowner as Steward: What makes this garden extraordinary is the care and love infused by the homeowners, whose passion for gardening gives the space its ever-evolving charm.
A Garden That Moves: As the wind passes through, the garden responds—alive, dynamic, and fully at ease in its natural rhythm.
-
Before: A large, unformed backyard with potential—but lacking cohesion, sensory interest, and soul.
After: A certified wildlife sanctuary and sensory haven, where water sings, plantings flow, and nature feels close enough to touch.
